Yes, I know..
Moan, moan
“Oh, I’ve got a blog and I’m going to change the world! Yeah! One pixel at a time!”
Yes, there is not so much a fine line as a bloody huge, thick line between having a blog and drawing attention to an issue and actually doing something about it. There seems to be a collective train of thought whereby people think that talking about an issue makes a difference. I suppose contributing to the debate, any debate, can only be a good thing, but what happens next? The issue in question gets dropped for an alternative, perhaps more appealing cause, which is all good and well but does nothing to alter any situation.
Yes, it’s great to draw attention to issues such as climate change, poverty, peace, genocide and so on but there comes a point with any issue where it drops from the International conciousness and is rapidly replaced with another, seemingly more urgent crisis.
We are bombarded via blogs, newspapers and the all seeing eye that is TELEVISION with so many things these days that it all clogs up into one big problem, one big collective weight upon international shoulders to do something; do anything before we shy away from the chance and it dies.
Now, I don’t know how to solve this problem or all the other causes and issues addressed in any worthy piece of ‘news’. I am just thinking. Aloud. Future generations may look back on these times and think that we were all so revolutionary in bringing many issues to the attention of others but none of that is no use if not a damn thing changes.
Actually, strike that. What I ought to have said is “Future generations WILL look back on these times and blah blah blahblahblah”
May I suggest civil disobedience?
