Yes, I am a nerd to all effects and purposes and therefore became embroiled in the online treasure hunt that is ‘Cloverfield’. While being knowingly sucked into what I fully knew to be a big marketing campaign, I couldn’t help but stand back and applaud the near genius of the viral idea.
Yes, it’s just marketing but it’s all so very clever, isn’t it? Makes you feel like you’re a part of the actual movie in a way. Well, the team behind I am Legend have taken a similar, possibly more clever step. By offering fans access to the website www.i-am-immune.com and promising previews, goodies etc, they offer rewards for fans who complete the most ‘missions’ within the confines of this ‘ARG’.
Very clever. Bastards.
And here I am promoting it. Once again….bastards.
Not only will they pay for the privilege of joining this website but in order to get the ‘rewards’, they will have to complete streetteam tasks so they are, in reality, also promoting the movie. And paying for the privilege of doing so.
